- Deepen their understanding of their own nervous systems.
- Learn to work with their triggers in a skillful and compassionate way.

In this foundational workshop, we’ll explore the different kinds of trauma and how trauma affects the stress response and hinders resilience. We’ll look at the hierarchy of stress responses and discuss how somatic-based yoga and mindfulness practices can support healing and grow resilience.

In this workshop, we’ll discuss Stephen Porges’ Polyvagal Theory, which has transformed the way we understand and care for people with trauma. We’ll take an in-depth look at the nervous system and the various trauma responses. We’ll also address how they present in the people we work with, and how to gauge our approach to being with our clients and students in each state.
TRAUMA THROUGH A SOMATIC LENS: HOW TO WIRE FOR REGULATION

In this workshop, we’ll talk about nervous system regulation and the relational neuroscience of safety. We’ll learn tools to regulate our own nervous system so we can be a source of safety and support for another. We’ll discuss the influence of the vagus nerve on self-regulation, as well as long-term practices that wire our nervous system for resilience.
TRAUMA THROUGH A SOCIAL LENS: UNCOVERING THE ROOTS OF TRAUMA

In this workshop, we’ll explore trauma beyond the individual experience. We’ll discuss traumatic retention through a collective and generational lens. We’ll discuss how trauma moves through families, generations, cultures, and systems, and explore the current research around the epigenetic transmission of trauma.
SAFETY. SUPPORT. COMPASSION. CHOICE: HOW TO TEACH TRAUMA-INFORMED YOGA

In this workshop, we’ll lay out basic guidelines for teaching a trauma-informed yoga class. We’ll discuss how to support our students’ sense of safety through orienting, inquiry, and invitational language. We will learn how to guide students to their own safe embodiment, self-authority, and encourage the development of their own inner wisdom.
LPCs, LCSWs, psychotherapists, yoga therapists, and yoga teachers can earn CE credits when they participate in this program. The complete program provides 11.5 hours of CE credit, and each individual course provides 2-2.5 hours of CE credit.

JENN WOOTEN C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, YACEP
Jenn is a certified yoga therapist and yoga educator who has studied yoga and mindfulness for over 20 years. She has been a teacher, mentor, and group facilitator in the Austin yoga community since 2004. Her teaching style focuses on body awareness, functional movement, and resilience. The core of her teaching is helping people cultivate a yoga and mindfulness practice as a pathway for healing and wellbeing. She founded Waking Yoga which creates heart-centered and trauma-aware spaces to practice yoga in Austin and around the world.
